What are they going to offer him, $100?

And I wonder if people honestly expect they’re actually getting a better deal on a new car when they trade something like that in.

72 Torino is a rare bird anymore, although that one needs some TLC. The leak may be a period correct feature.

I mean if we’re being honest the scrap value is maybe a few hundred dollars.

My first car was a ‘72 Gran Torino so it kind of pains me to see one like that.

$3oo to the guy in the white helmet, do i hear $301?......

depends on how you skin them out too. you can get around $150 for the body in weight, if you scale JUST the body. if you sit on the engine and transmission, and sell them to people that need them, you can get around $150-$250, depending on what they are. tires bring $5-$20, rims $5, the radiator is worth $2.10/lb clean. anything special can get shelved until a good swapmeet(badges, trim, gauges, lenses).

it all depends on how much time you have to sit on parts......

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

You’re a saint.

I’m probably going to go scrap a Jetta and I was told with the engine and trans they pay $190 per ton. Hopefully I don’t have to strip the interior, though.

it all depends on where you haul it off to. some metal yards will dock you for tires.. and you have to pull the gas tank, and battery before they will take them. there are battery recyclers, that give $11per on battery cores. you can make a few dollars if you stack them up for a little while. aluminium rims usually bring around $11per at metal recyclers( the ones that buy aluminium, brass, copper) but you have to have them stripped down to JUST the rim, no weights, or tires, stems. not a big deal if you are already breaking down the tires yourself. a bead breaker is a godsend. you can usually sell JUST the catalytic converter for anywhere from $10 to $350.......

Kinja'd!!!

depending on where you live, you can find some engine rebuilder shops that buy cores. some pay up to around $75 per, and transmission shops will sometimes buy cores, usually around the same range. its not a LOT of money, but it is money that is on top of whatever you were expecting to get on just the shell of the car. i would look at selling to a METAL RECYCLER yard(one of the ones that you haul your car/metal over a set of scales) over just a pick and pull yard. the pick and pull is counting on making money off of the engine and trans themselves, which is why thier price is dependant on being mostly complete and they are kind of lowballing you. metal has been down for a while, and i havent checked prices in a bit, but you would be leaving a lot of meat on the bone. $10/100lbs is very generous, down here it was down to $1/100 for a good while. i have hauled in while it was $20, i couldnt get enough weight fast enough.......

a whole lot depends on how far out you are from a major city with good recycling yards.

you could make enough, on JUST the pull off stuff, to make it worthwhile even if they gave you next to nothing on the shell

something to look into anyways.......

I’ll give him $1k for it right now if it moves under it’s own power, $500 if it doesn’t. Which is probably still more than he’s getting for trade in.

does sticking it in gear, and cranking the starter count as “under its own power”?....... either way, it is probably and easy push, probably rolls down hills real nice too......
